An unexpected crisis for Pep

Premier League 2020/21: Manchester City vs Leicester City - Tactical Analysis - Tactics

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has a big task in front of him. The team has returned from the international break and started preparing for the league matches and Champions League. There are some problems in the attacking side of the group. One of them is the absence of the winger Ferran Torres for at least three months. The second one is the presence of another winger Raheem Sterling in the team. The manager does not like his recent statements on leaving the club. He will be frustrated to see how Sterling has talked about not getting playing time under the Spaniard. So, looking at the attacking side of the team, Man City betting is not a good choice right now.

Currently, Manchester City is on an unbeaten streak of seven games. The only game they have lost was against Tottenham in the opening match. After that game, Guardiola has changed the defensive shape of the team, and now after eight games, they’ve only conceded three goals. Out of those three goals, two were in the match against Liverpool. So, they have kept six clean sheets in total in all the other games during this unbeaten run.
Pep successfully sorted the defensive issues. But now he has to make some drastic changes in the attacking. It’s because of the injury that happened to Ferran Torres and the problems with Sterling. Ferran Torres has a fracture in his metatarsal of the right foot, which occurred during the international break. There are reports that he will be out for at least three months. A massive blow to Pep as he lost another winger who was having a great season. Torres was able to adapt to the Premier League within one season, and he was looking to having a fantastic season with some good performances.

Right now, Pep will have doubts about giving chances to Sterling. He was out of Pep’s starting XI from the end of last season. But Sterling was hoping to get back with some impressive performances. He was only in the starting XI in two games this season. Sterling’s statement will not do any good to him. Pep has stated that all players should fight for their place in the squad. He also replied to Sterling’s comment on leaving the club. Pep said that he is always free to leave if he wants.

In this situation, Pep will be in short of two wingers. But we might see him giving chances to Sterling as Ferran Torres is injured. It’s a situation where Pep cannot solve quickly. If Sterling plans to leave in January and Torres can’t return by then, it might create issues.
