Delighted Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to their team’s thumping UEFA Champions League round-of-16 first-leg victory over Borussia Dortmund, on the social media site Twitter.
Spurs put themselves in a commanding position in the tie through strikes from Heung-min Son, centre-back Jan Vertonghen and striker Fernando Llorente to claim a 3-0 triumph ahead of the second leg in a few weeks’ time. At at the same stage of the competition they were knocked out last season.
The win took on extra significance as it was achieved without the help of star centre-forward Harry Kane, the England captain being a player Spurs have been accused of relying on too much, in the past.
This made the crucial triumph all the more sweet for Spurs fans, who packed out the national stadium to contribute to a capacity of 71,214 for last night’s match.
