Match Preview: Man City huge favourites to defeat Sporting Lisbon

It is the trophy that has continued to elude them and many would have believed that it would have finally been theirs last season once they reached the final.

Of course, we all know that was not to be the case as Chelsea spoiled their night in Portugal, but Manchester City will be hoping this is the season that they are finally able to get their hands on the UEFA Champions League trophy.

Indeed, they managed to make their way to the knockout rounds as expected and given their opponents in the Round of 16 and the English side’s current form, many will expect them to coast into the quarter-final stage of the competition.

Naturally, it would be wrong and naive to completely disregard Sporting Lisbon’s chances of pulling off an upset in the 1st leg that will be played in Portugal, however even sportsbooks are not giving them much hope to conquer the giants that stand in front of them.

Betway Sportsbook has provided Manchester City with a price of 30/100 to take the win on the night and head back to the Etihad Stadium with the advantage ahead of the second leg. Indeed, those that are keen on this game could look to make the most of the boosts and other promotional offers that have been made available. Betway have boosted Kevin De Bryune to score from 8/11 to 2/1.

With the way that Pep Guardiola’s side have been playing recently, it is almost impossible to ever look past them, especially when there is so much on the line.

The current Premier League champions are running away with the league once again this season and do not look like giving up on their points advantage at the moment, whilst they remain in FA Cup competition and will be looking to go on and add that piece of silverware to their cabinet this season, especially as they were unable to add the League Cup.

On the other hand, Sporting could argue that they have a good test ahead of them this weekend as they will go up against the league leaders, Porto, away from home before hosting the Citizens.

However, there is every chance that this game could take a lot out of Rúben Amorim’s side  and have a negative impact, especially with the quick turnaround in regard to fixtures. However, with no one seemingly expecting them to do anything on Tuesday night, perhaps the pressure is off the shoulders of everyone, which then may play into their hands a little more than it should.
