A Preview of the Serie A 2020-21 Season

The Serie A 2020-21 season starts on the 19th of September 2020, a week later than previously scheduled. A full Serie A season sees the 20 teams participating with each of them playing 38 matches. The teams also take part in the domestic and continental cup ties. Fans of the Italian league can now easily access online sites for the live football streams available. 

Teams are in the market for players to bolster their squad for the upcoming season. The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic is the reason for the abnormal season calendar and transfer window. It necessitated the postponement of the Euro 2020 tournament too. Some of the Serie A clubs are seeking for the postponement of their first matches. Atalanta and Inter Milan want an extended rest for their players due to their involvement in the continental competitions. It is estimated that the season will end on 23rd May 2021.

Dates to look out for

The first round of matches for the new season takes place on 19 September 2020. This is barely two months after the conclusion of the 2019-20 season. The end of the season will be pushed further than normal. Teams can sign players up to the night of 5th October 2020 when the transfer window closes. The first Milan derby takes place on October 18th. Juventus and Inter Milan derby takes place on January 17, 2021. AS Roma and Lazio will also be in action for their Della Capitale derby. Inter Milan and Roma lock horns on 10th January. 

Winners and Losers of the Previous Season

Juventus are the current Serie A holders and will be looking to win the league for a record 10 consecutive times.  Four teams will battle with other European giants for the champions league: Juventus, Atalanta, Lazio, and Inter Milan. Milan, Roma, and Napoli will grace the second-tier European club championship in Europa League. The teams promoted to the league for the 2010-21 season are Spezia, Crotone, and Benevento. SPAL, Lecce, and Brescia are the teams that were relegated for the upcoming season.   

Pundits predict a 3-horse Race in the Serie A

The top teams are looking for the ideal player in the transfer market to push for a title bid. Inter Milan and Juventus are the most active in the market. Napoli is a team that the pundits and former players think that will have a challenge at the title. AC Milan is an interesting side to watch in the 2020-21 season as the team looks to get back to the Champions League. 

Major Signings for the Upcoming Season

Inter Milan has a variety of new players to sign up with the club. They have signed Hakimi from Real Madrid, Kolarov from AS Roma, among other players. Juventus splashed money for Barcelona Midfielder Arthur. Victor Osimhen switched from Lille to Napoli while Atalanta have added Romero from Juventus and Miranchuk from Lokomotiv Moscow. Lazio have signed Pepe Reina, Akpa Akpro, and Gonzalo Escalante. Mkhitaryan joins Roma on a permanent deal, as well as, Alexis Sanchez to Internationale.
