Unai Emery has fully acclimatized to the English Premier League. The experienced manager has managed to bring his own style to Arsenal without changing very much at all. His first season in the EPL may have not shown any significant improvement from the team that Arsene Wenger left him, however, Emery has sparked the belief into Arsenal fans that this may be their year.
Every year Arsenal gets criticised for not recruiting properly. Underwhelming transfer windows have seen the club decide to put faith in the lack of talent they already had.
Finally, Arsenal have broken their streak of terrible transfer windows as they decided to go all out in the summer. In an attempt to fix their defensive issues once and for all, the gunners purchased three high-quality defenders.
Both Kieran Tierney and David Luiz are experienced in big games and will surely bring a more organised structure to Emery’s defensive unit.
Arsenal have also added fresh blood to their midfield and forward line. A superb deal that sees Daniel Ceballos move to the club on loan, gives Arsenal a chance to try before they buy.
However, it must be said that it is the blockbuster purchase of Nicolas Pepe that trumps all of Arsenal’s other transfers. The truly world-class player only broke onto the scene last season. Arsenal’s new acquisition has presented the opportunity of a likely attacking trio within the team in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Pepe.
It seems as though, because of their successful transfer window, that football fans are expecting more of a threat from Arsenal this season. But surely given past experience, everyone should know to not judge Arsenal to early.
Year after year, Arsenal show promise in the first half of the season, only to let their fans down again. Will this year be the same?
Well, the gunners have successfully managed to hit the ground running so far. Being only two games in, it is obviously far too soon to make proper judgements about the team, but what we are seeing from Arsenal is very impressive.
Victories against Newcastle and Burnley showed how lethal Arsenal’s attack can be. With key individuals in the team showing signs of encouragement, it seems like everything is on the way up.
Although, the promising vibes given off by the club may be about to disappear. With slightly easy opening fixtures, Arsenal are in need of a proper test. Their next EPL match sees them take on the current champions of Europe.
A defeat to Liverpool wouldn’t be the end of the world. But it would suggest that once again Arsenal are being flooded with praise far too early. The trip to Anfield will shed light on the true quality of this Arsenal side.
Emery will have ambitions of getting his side into the top four. And even though the club have bought well, it doesn’t guarantee anything. Regardless if they have spent big or not…is Arsenal’s squad any better the Spurs or Chelsea’s?
Arsenal’s attempt to battle it out with the big boys again is something we would all like to see. Nevertheless, the likes of Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester City are simply a couple of years ahead of any outside threat. Emery will need more than just a few new signings to turn Arsenal into the leaders of the pack.
