Paul Scholes is expected to take over the reins of Oldham Athletic, the club that sit 15th in the fourth tier of English football, in the next 24 hours.
Scholes, considered one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, will have the task of guiding the Latics, who shocked Premier League Fulham in the Emirates FA Cup last month, away from the relegation zone and up towards mid-table. If the deal goes through.
Spending his whole playing career at Old Trafford and winning trophies such as the PL and the UEFA Champions League for fun, the 42-year-old retired from the professional game in 2013. And is nowadays involved in the set-up at National League Salford City, with a selection of fellow former United teammates.
This would be his first full job in management and as you could imagine, there have been some interesting fan reactions on Twitter…
