UWCL Match Review: FC Barcelona Femeni vs Arsenal Women

UEFA Women’s Champions League 2019/20: Barcelona vs Juventus – tactical analysis tactics

The table-toppers of Primera Division, FC Barcelona and of Women’s Super League, Arsenal, locked horns yesterday in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Barca dominated the entire match and won it 4-1. The fans were expecting a mouth-watering clash, and that’s what we witnessed yesterday. Barcelona performed exactly how a reigning champion should perform. The dominance of the team over Arsenal was visible throughout the game.
The performance of both the teams in their leagues made the match more interesting even before it started. Both the teams have not lost a single game. The stats are also brilliant for both teams. Barca has played five games in which they have scored thirty-five goals and conceded just one. Arsenal has played four games in which they have scored 16 goals and conceded just one. These wonder stats shows the brilliant display of both the league leaders.

The dominant display from Barca made Arsenal look like a less dominant team. Arsenal was not even in the picture for more than 75% of the game time. It just shows the quality of Barca’s dream team. They were in control of the game with 35 shots, and 14 of them was shots on target. The brilliant display of football tactics of Barcelona Femeni was pretty visible on the ground.

Barca’s only aim for this season is to retain this title with all the other titles. They want to repeat winning the treble and mark history, which no other team has ever done.

In the second half, Arsenal dominated for some minutes, which resulted in a goal by the Norwegian midfielder, Frida Maanum. Barca was a bit lazy when Arsenal scored the goal. But they suddenly woke up and scored their fourth goal in the eighty-fourth minute by Lieke Martens. All the other goals for Barca were scored earlier by Mariona Caldentey in the 31st minute, Alexia Putellas in the 42nd minute, and former Arsenal player Asisat Oshoala scored the third goal in the 47th minute. Barca got a golden opportunity to take the lead to five with a penalty in the ending minutes, but unfortunately, Putellas missed the chance.

Even in the defeat, Arsenal can be delighted with their goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger who made ten saves, including a penalty save in the ending minutes. Without her outstanding performance, Arsenal would have been humiliated by the Barca Women.

This Barcelona side looks very lethal and dangerous. Every team will have a difficult time against them as they are in the dream run. Arsenal will try to get back to their winning ways with the league matches.
