The race for promotion to the Premier League starts once again this weekend, with the decision to not null and void the season meaning three teams still have the chance to go up for the 2020/21 campaign. There are nine games left to play in the Championship season, as well as a potential further three for the four teams that get to the playoffs and there is still plenty to be decided. Should the season be brought to a halt once again, the league will be decided on points per game.
Here, we will be taking a closer look at the teams that are in contention for promotion from the Championship in the remaining weeks of the season and their odds of winning a place in the Premier League. Leeds – 1/66
Given their position at the top of the Championship table, it’s no surprise that Leeds United are such short odds to be promoted to the Premier League this season. Marcelo Bielsa’s team have a seven point advantage over third-placed Fulham and are a point above West Bromwich Albion in second heading into their last nine games. Leeds also went into the break of play with five wins in succession without conceding a goal, although given last season’s collapse there may be one or two punters out there looking to lay Leeds in their promotion bid.
West Brom – 1/12
Slaven Bilic’s West Brom have been one of the most steady operators in the Championship so far this season, consistently finding themselves in and around the top two for the majority of the campaign. They have lost just five of their 37 games this season and are the most prolific scorers in the league alongside Brentford with 64 goals scored.
Brentford – 6/5
Despite sitting fourth in the table, Brentford are the third-favourites to be promoted from the Championship this season. That is in large part thanks to their ‘BMW’ front line featuring Said Benrahama, Brian Mbuemo and Ollie Watkins, who have scored 46 goals between them in the Championship this term.
Fulham – 6/4
Fulham are aiming to get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking under Scott Parker and are in a strong position to do so. Currently sitting six points behind West Brom in second, the playoffs appear to be the most likely option for the London outfit, who won promotion from the Championship in 2018 via the playoff final against Aston Villa.
Nottingham Forest – 6/1
Nottingham Forest will need to show better form than they did prior to the break in the season if they are going to have any chance of winning promotion this season. Forest won just one of their last six games, but will feel confident by the fact they have Lewis Grabban, who has scored 17 goals this season.
Millwall – 12/1
Led by Gary Rowett, Millwall have been a surprise package in the Championship so far this season and are sixth-favourites to go up despite currently sitting eighth. They are the league’s draw specialists with 15 draws to their name already this season, but that resiliency of not losing many games could see them sneak into the top six.
