Premier League football returns after the international hiatus, with Liverpool at the top of the table after a perfect start. What seemed like a two-horse race between Manchester City and Liverpool has now become a thrilling title battle. Liverpool remain the only undefeated team in the league, while the defending champions Man City were shocked by a 3-2 result at Norwich City, which leaves Pep Guardiola’s team five points behind the Reds on the table.
An injury-hit Manchester United overcame a tough test to inflict Leicester their first defeat of the season at Old Trafford. Chelsea and Tottenham bounced back to form with big wins on Saturday. Frank Lampard’s squad beat Wolves 5-2, with Tammy Abraham scoring a superb hat-trick, while the Spurs thrashed Crystal Palace 4-0 in a one-sided London derby. Tottenham, Man United, Leicester, Chelsea, and Arsenal are all neck and neck in the points department with eight points each. It seems that it’s going to be another intense and fiercely competitive EPL season, especially for the Champions League places.
At the other end of the table, Wolves, Watford, and Aston Villa will have to play much better if they want to avoid Championship football next season.
Week six of the 2019/20 EPL season gets back underway on Friday, September 20 when Southampton will host Bournemouth at St Mary’s Stadium.
In today’s article, we’re going to analyse some of the matches of the upcoming weekend and make some early predictions along the way.
Leicester – Tottenham
After suffering a first Premier League defeat to Manchester United, Leicester will be trying to get back on course when they host the Spurs. The Foxes are trying to keep up with the elite teams in the battle for Champions League spots, and they can’t afford losing two matches in a row.
Spurs have been struggling to find their A-game at the start of the season. They’ve already dropped seven points, and things don’t seem to go as planned for Pochetinno’s squad. But seeing how well they played on Saturday, it would appear that they are determined to rejoin the race for the EPL trophy.
We predict they’re going to give it all against Leicester. Their leading scorer, Harry Kane, will be the man to watch out for on the home team. He’s on quite a scoring streak, coming off from an international hiatus with a hat-trick in his pocket in England’s 4:0 win against Bulgaria. He didn’t score against Crystal Palace but did create an assist for Lamela to score a couple of minutes before the half-time break.
Looking at the 2.25 odds on William Hill’s offer for an away win, it seems that the bookies consider Tottenham a mild favourite in this match. The odds for total match goals being over 2.5 are trading at 1.80, and given the previous encounters of the two teams, this is where you should put your money.
The 1.70 on both sides to score in this match looks like one of the bankers for the weekend, especially considering that both teams have conceded at least one goal in almost all of their previous games in the EPL.
But before you start placing bets, make sure to take full advantage of the latest Premier League betting offers for season 2019/20 offered by all top bookmakers.
Crystal Palace – Wolves
Although they were demolished by Tottenham in Saturday’s EPL kick-off, we believe that the Eagles should remain upbeat about their chances this season. They were completely outplayed by Spurs, to put it mildly, but losing against a Champions League finalist is nothing to be ashamed of.
Before the loss to the Spurs, Crystal Palace won two matches in a row against Aston Villa and Man Utd, and they currently sit on the 12th spot, away from the danger zone. But things change quickly, and given how fierce the competition in the EPL is, Roy Hodgson’s team must get back on track as soon as possible. They will undoubtedly face a hard fight to stay in the Premier League, and winning against the second-worst team in the league would be a good start.
Wolves, on the other hand, are playing atrociously. They are on a three-game winless streak in the EPL, which is probably going to continue after next Saturday. Crystal Palace play exceptionally well at home and seeing how much Wolves have been struggling this year in the EPL, we don’t believe they will win at Selhurst Park Stadium.
Crystal Palace are currently a 3.00 home favourite in William Hill, which is a fantastic price for a team that wants to escape the danger zone at all costs. The UK bookmaker gives an exceptional 13.00 odds for the correct score 2:1 on this match, and it could be worth a smaller stake. If you want to play it safe, you can have a small bet on over 2.5 goals at 2.37. The 6.50 odds on Crystal Palace to win and both teams to score is well worth a pip or two.
