Mohamed Salah has been one of the Premier League’s leading players ever since he signed for Liverpool in the summer of 2017. His debut season was record-breaking in terms of his goal return. Over the following years, he formed a vital part of one of the strongest attacking trios ever with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Mane left to join Bayern Munich last summer and Firmino has confirmed he will not be renewing his contract. However, Salah still remains with the reds, strengthening his legendary status and continuing to build his legacy as one of the greatest Premier League players ever.

Consistent goalscoring

Salah has finished as one of the leagues leading goalscorers in every season that he has played for Liverpool. Even in this season, in which Liverpool has underperformed, his return has still been impressive with 11 goals in his first 25 appearances. In outright Premier League bets online, Liverpool is offered at -100 to secure a top-four finish, which would somewhat salvage their disappointing campaign.

Arsenal and Manchester City are the leading contenders for those betting on the Premier League winner. The North London side is offered at -120 to secure the title. Pep Guardiola’s City is offered at -100 to retain their title, and Liverpool may have expected to be competing at the top of the table with their rivals this season.

When Liverpool is performing well as a team, Salah is often the standout player, and when results are not positive he still manages to impress, as shown by the current season. Salah has had to adjust to playing with new players in the forward line for a team that is in transition, but his quality has been unchanged.

Salah has earned three golden boot awards during his time in England, the most recent coming in the 2021/22 season. The Egyptian has now become Liverpool’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League after overtaking Robbie Fowler and he is certainly one of the Reds’ greatest players in league history. But how do top Premier League players of the past compare? Could Salah end his career as the greatest player to ever grace the league?

How do fellow greats compare?

When considering ability as well as longevity, it is difficult to compare any single player in league history to Salah besides Thierry Henry. Henry won a record four golden boots and recorded five seasons overall in which he scored 20 or more goals in the league.

Salah is showing no signs of slowing down for the Reds. In terms of overall goalscoring numbers, Salah trails Henry by less than 50 goals now. It is certainly foreseeable that he could overtake the Frenchmen in the all-time rankings.

Salah may have to stretch his longevity a little further if he is to establish himself as the outright greatest Premier League player. The stats are incredibly close and Salah still has time left in his playing days to overtake Henry.

If the Egyptian overtakes his all-time Premier League goal tally and perhaps even adds another golden boot, then he would surely have engulfed Henry’s individual achievements in the league. Salah will certainly go down as a Premier League great, but over the next few seasons, he has the chance to stake his claim as the single greatest-ever player in its history.
